This week's meeting will be short series of mini-presentations and a discussion about indoctrination of all kinds!
If you open your heart to our meeting you will leave with a warm fuzzy feeling and an unwavering conviction that indoctrination is evil.

This week we'll be discussing Ray Comfort's followers' invasion of our campus, the long correspondence back and forth about it, his misinformation and propaganda tactics, and what we are going to do in response.

We'll also talk about other activities outside of meetings that we'll be doing and hear about some volunteer/activism opportunities.

September 22: Transhumanism

transhumanism

We said this week's meeting would be a pasta party, but it is not something we could throw together in a week given the state of room assignments. Sorry for any disappointment this may cause; we still plan to have a pasta party later this semester.

At the meeting tomorrow we will begin with a quick game involving quotations, and then we will have an enlightening presentation from Jey on Transhumanism, which will be followed by a lively discussion!

"I'll be talking a bit about the movement called transhumanism, but we'll also be considering and discussing what desirable futures are from the point of view of the scientifically-grounded non-believer.
Each religion prescribes an answer to these questions, but what about those of us who aren't content with a view of the future taken from mythology? What constitutes a desirable future, and how do we get there?"

-Jey Kottalam

This will all be followed by dinner at Racha's on Telegraph and Dwight! We made sure to ask for separate checks in advance (Hooray!).

September 15: Personal Experiences
Written by James Mitchell

A few of the officers will tell their personal stories of how they became atheists. We will follow with anyone else who would like to share, and have lots of discussion and questions as they come up. This meeting should be very informal, and hopefully everyone will get a better understanding of the atheist/agnostic experience as well as get to know their local community of non-believers.

Join us for a lively and enlightening discussion, followed by dinner at Mario's on Telegraph and Haste! (note: it has moved to a bigger building just half a block away from the old location!)

September 8: History of Atheism up to 18th Century
Written by James Mitchell

Ephesians 2,12 - Greek atheos

Kevin Gorman will be presenting on the history of atheism as a scientific position and on the history of science itself. He will be focusing on the major personalities who straddled both realms, starting from the beginning of recorded history up to the concept of 'deep time' by James Hutton in the early 18th century.

Come join us for a lively and enlightening discussion, followed (as always) by heading off to dinner!

As an administrative note: emails will go out to the mailing list on Monday detailing the last event and introducing the next day's event. We will also introduce the next week's event at the end of each meeting, and you come here to see our calendar and information before they are emailed out. Facebook will be used along with email for events that require RSVPs such as when we have a guest speaker or food. Please join the group and contact the new people you meet!
